At IGNITE, your safety is our top priority. As our customer base grows, we are evolving our safety guidelines to better reflect how the IGNITE system is used in the real world.
What’s Changing?
We are no longer supporting or recommending the use of professional e-match style igniters with the IGNITE system. This includes:
- MJG initiators
- Chinese e-match (commonly sold on eBay or fireworks forums)
- Our own Fuse-Tube igniters (MJG variant)
These igniters are extremely sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD) and friction, which means they can unintentionally ignite during handling or connection — especially in consumer environments without professional-level safeguards.
Why the Change?
IGNITE was originally built to make electronic firing simple, safe, and accessible for those who had never e-fired before. As our community has grown, more customers are joining from outside the fireworks hobbyist world. Many of these users are not professionally trained and may not be aware of the risks that come with handling certain igniters.
While we previously supported the use of Fuse-Tube igniters, the risk profile has changed. We now believe that continuing to support these products could result in avoidable accidents or injuries. This is not a fault of the igniters or of our customers — it’s simply a matter of increased volume, changing user experience levels, and the responsibilities that come with growth.
What to Use Instead
We recommend switching to Clip-On igniters, which are:
- Not sensitive to ESD or friction
- Just as reliable as Fuse-Tube igniters when installed correctly
- Compatible with all IGNITE firing modules
- Designed for safe handling in consumer-level environments
Safety Best Practices
No matter which igniter you use, please follow these safety steps every time you fire a show:
- Keep any available shunt connected to the quick plug until you’re ready to connect it to the module
- Position your module away from the fireworks so you can power it on without reaching over any product
- Never plug in a battery while igniters are connected — instead, keep the battery plugged in and power the unit on when ready
- Only use the supplied LiPo or 9V backup harness — do not connect external power sources
- Always perform continuity checks from a safe distance
- Treat the module as a live device once it is powered on — it can fire at any time
- Never consume alcohol when setting up or operating your IGNITE system
Need Help?
If you purchased IGNITE specifically to use with Fuse-Tube igniters and this change affects your show plans, please reach out to us directly at help@ignitefiringsystems.com. We’re happy to support you with recommendations or next steps.
We appreciate your trust in IGNITE and your continued support. As we expand the features and tools available to our community, our goal remains the same: to deliver a safe, reliable, and low-stress firing system for everyone.
