No. If the LiPo battery in your IGNITE module looks puffy, bulged, or feels soft or squishy when you gently press the sides, stop using it immediately. A swollen battery is either at end of life or has an internal defect, and continuing to use or charge it creates a real risk of fire, leakage, or explosion.
A healthy IGNITE LiPo battery is firm and flat. If the casing is visibly inflated, or it has noticeable give when you press the sides compared to a known-good battery, treat it as swollen.
What to do right now
- Stop using and stop charging the battery. Do not put it back on a charger and do not fire the module with that battery installed.
- Remove the battery from the module if you can do so safely. Do not bend, puncture, crush, or cut it.
- Store it in a ventilated area away from anything flammable while you arrange disposal.
- Take photos (see below) and email IGNITE Support at support@ignitefiringsystems.com [Zach: confirm correct support email for IGNITE customer intake] so we can check warranty status and get you a replacement if eligible.
Photos to send
So we can confirm the swelling and check the battery against our warranty records, please send three photos:
- Side profile of the battery, resting flat-face-down on a table so any bulging on the side is visible.
- Back of the battery (the blue plastic side) showing the full serial number label.
- Front label of the battery showing the model and any visible damage or discoloration.
Warranty
IGNITE LiPo batteries carry a two-year warranty from the date of purchase. If your swollen battery is within that two-year window, IGNITE Support will ship a replacement at no cost, and you will not need to send the defective battery back. If the battery is past the two-year window, you can purchase a replacement through the IGNITE store.
How to dispose of a swollen LiPo battery
Never put a LiPo battery in your regular household trash. Use one of the following:
- Call2Recycle to find a drop-off location near you.
- A local hazardous waste facility or recycling center that accepts lithium batteries.
- Your local fire department, which can often advise on safe drop-off.
Do not puncture, crush, or cut the battery. Do not throw it in water. Keep it away from heat and flammable materials until you can drop it off.
